Greetings,

A few South Cumberland State Park news items today.

Park Activities for December

December planned activities for South Cumberland are now online www.friendsofscsra.org/activities.htm

Buggytop Cave Tour

Many folks have asked to be notified when the very popular cave tour is on the schedule.

Save the date!  December 7 at 1:00 PM CST.

New Volunteer Program in the Works

At the recent Friends board meeting, we discussed plans to develop more opportunities for Park lovers to help the Park.  Read Friends President Latham Davis' recent posting in the new Friends BLOG and the comments.

Randy Hedgepath: Tennessee State Naturalist

Randy Hedgepath attended the recent Friends board meeting and advised his appointment as State Naturalist as replacement for past Friends board member Mack Prichard.  I don't think it is possible for anyone to "fill Mack's shoes", but I can't think of a better person to bring new and different ideas to helping us all understand the ecology, history and culture of our wonderful State of Tennessee.  I have known Randy for a long time, since he was a Ranger here at South Cumberland.  Good man he is.  Congratulations, Randy.

Rescue A Former Friends Board Member?

I talked on the cell phone with Mack Prichard this morning on his way to a family gathering in Chattanooga.  He is driving his old gold colored Mercedes diesel station wagon and reported he must have something in the fuel line or filter because the car is missing and chugging going up hills.  He was on his way up to Monteagle and said if he didn't make it, he would call me to come get him.  So far no call, so I guess he is still rolling.  But, if you see an old gold colored Mercedes station wagon sitting along the roadside somewhere, you should stop and check.  It could be the best friend Tennessee State Parks has ever had.

Friends' Website Rework

Check out the changes to www.friendsofscsra.org  We have been doing a little redesign to make the website easier to navigate and to create a navigation structure that will make it easy to add new pages.  Feedback and recommendations appreciated to info@roncastle.com, thanks.

We are always looking for new content, photos, stories, information for the Friends BLOG.  Contributions welcome, thanks.

Best wishes to you and your family for a peaceful Thanksgiving holiday.  I am thankful for South Cumberland and all of you who love and support the Park.

Cheers,

Ron Castle
